Two portraits in silhoette

Got these two shots of some good friends of mine. I have never tried taking portraits in silhouette before. Your comments are welcome.

I rather prefer the first one if we had to choose. Although the second is out of focus it does create a nice mood.

Another vote for #1.
Composition works. Silhouette gives the personal touch quite effectively, and the expressions there are warmer and more open.
