Ash, very impressed, impressionism in photography is alive and strong! Do you have any more of these?

The colours, shapes and contrasts would make excellent prints.

Thanks for the comments guys.
More to come over the rest of the week as I discover other ways to create these forms of abstract art...

I'd still say this was abstract rather than impressionism Ash, great images though.
My take on impressionism is that the image is easily recognisable, it just looks more like a painting than a photograph whereas for abstract, it doesn't matter whether it looks like a painting or a photograph because it's the subject itself that counts.

Cool shots - makes me want to pull out an Airplane, Cream or Hendrix album.

Gotcha Gary.
Indeed it is more abstract. I'll work some more on it over the next few days...

A few more from the series:

I agree with Gary, these are abstracts.

A square crop would give more impact, from the top edge down.

These are very good Ash, especially like the third image.

But I agree in general with Gary, they are abstract. However, sometimes these labels can be semantics, especially in photography. And we tend to call abstract anything that we can't fit into a simple obvious category. When I use the term impression, I mean to convey a mood or what I feel about a subject, sometimes by design or accident. It can look like a painting or be abstract, but it is an impression. I really don't think we should get hung up on labels. From my experience, if we can relate in some way to a painting or photo, however abstract or impressionistic, we tend to like it and say why, be it colour, mood, pattern, suggestion, you name it. The photos that tend to go unnoticed or be dismissed are those that we cannot in some way relate to. We then often call that 'junk.' I know many will disagree, but that is the way I look at this issue.

Hi Ash, I like the second version of each one. The colors are more bold.

Thanks Jim and JMR.
I appreciate what you add to the discussion JMR. It is a form of artwork beyond the appreciation of what is expected in still photography, and interpreted in a variety of ways.

I'm gathering that impressionisms lie in between still-life and abstract art but can take various adaptations of each to bring emotion and drama in the images.

I will be working on this more with time...

Hey, Ash! #2 for me, but you know I'm a sucker for processing

I had a hand at this myself today, and it was a quick reminder of just how difficult this is. I'm really enjoying following your journey!

Thanks Keitha.
It's fun pursuing this stream of imagery.
