A Few with the Bokina
Posted By: deadwolfbones, 11-04-2009, 10:19 AM

Well, a week or so ago I was considering selling this lens. Then I actually used it. Suffice it to say I'm not thinking about selling it anymore.

Most of these are wide open, some at f/3.5. Compositionally not the greatest, but look at that sharpness and bokeh. My gawddddd!

Bokina?

Which of those lenses in your signature is the lens you mentioned?

Hi guys,

It's the legendary Tokina AT-X 90mm f/2.5 Macro. These were taken without the matched 1:1 macro extender. The lens is capable of 1:2 macro on its own.

There's a great extended discussion of the lens here.

Those are fantastic pictures Benny! Are any of them straight out of the camera, or all touched up a little?

All touched up a little bit from raw. Mainly contrast + saturation. Can't touch up that sharpness, though.

Looks like it might be a keeper. Why would you even think of selling it?

Well, I've got the Tokina 90mm and the Tamron 90mm. Both are incredibly sharp, but the Tamron has a couple pros the Tokina doesn't: AF and 1:1 native macro. The Tokina requires the bulky 1:1 adapter. I've got it, but it's a pain to switch back and forth... much nicer to have 1:1 ability all the time.

That said, I'll probably eventually sell the Tamron and keep the Tokina.

Wow ... I have the Tamron 90mm myself ... and I love that lens.
But hell ... if I had the Bokina ... there's no way I'd sell it.
It's one of those lenses you put on the camera ... and go walk-about with ... and have no intention of swapping to another lens at all.
