K20D exposure blend of Gare du Nord, Paris
Posted By: newmikey, 11-05-2009, 03:27 PM

The skeleton of the Gare du Nord trainstation in Paris. Could be family to a cathedral...

Manually aligned in Gimp - 3 exposures (0, -2, +2) blended. Some lens correction(Gimp plugin again) to account for the DA16-45mm distortion at 16mm and a wide crop to eliminate the uninteresting ceiling.

It was the apparent symmetry that drew me and I spent minutes lining it up so that the symmetry would show. Even then, I ended up tilting the camera to the right a bit (which I have a tendency of doing all the time - crooked horizons are my bane) so I had to measure up the angle and then rotate the picture by about half a degree.

This is just a train station's far end, where the trains actually roll out from under the roof but the similarity to grand churches/cathedrals was striking and the light helped - gloomy inside, bright early evening sky outside.

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

The symmetry works. This is a brilliant capture.
Well worked with in PP.
Classic look.
Well done.

Very effective shot!Your eyes are definately drawn towards the light.I think by having the yellowness in the light balls really made the difference compared to if it was a white light. And a nice backdrop to top it off.
