The Artist, His work and more
Posted By: little laker, 06-05-2007, 12:19 AM

This artist uses the Power of the Sun to burn his wood.

Here's 1 of his finished pieced

An Arbutus Tree (Only grows along the South West of Canada, close to the ocean)
\

I like this stump

And this is Bridal Falls

It's further in-land about 100 Miles from Vancouver

I'll post some more in the next day or so

Wow, those first two shots document very interesting work! How long does it take him to finish a typical piece? How much does he sell them for? Very creative... apart from the risk of sun-stroke (from which he's somewhat protected, it seems.)

Hi Stu! I loved each and every shot. The Arbutus I had forgotten about. Bridal Falls brings back fun summer memories. Thanks for sharing - cheers, AJ

He had that piece almost burned in less than 2 hours. I didn't want to disturb him so I didn't talk to him and see how long a completed piece takes. My guess is about a day.
Again I didn't have the chance to ask him how much they were

I just found his web site here

Never a problem AJ. I love Bridal Falls and try to stop there whenever I'm passing by.
I never knew what an Arbutus tree was until 2 years ago, which is probably why I'm drawn towards them. I'll be using one in a flag I'm designing for the boating club

Thank you. I again lucked out, he isn't there very often and set up shortly before we left.

Nice shots Stu, love the first one. I've been told I have steady hands but I betchya I couldn't compete with that guy! Just the thought of burning a perfect circle gives me the shakes. Neat technique. Up in the Adirondaks there are a few artists who work with shelf fungi, carving scenes into the white underside, but this is the first time I've ever seen someone buning designs with a glass.

NaCl(one wonders what he does when it's cloudy for long periods)H2O

Great shots, I really like the first two - calling that guy and artist is more than true.

Hi Stu, nice set of pictures but that artist sure must have a steady hand. It's one thing to sit there and burn a hole in a piece of paper but to burn whole pictures......

take care, heinrich
