Interesting shots, and I had to google Iconography too...
Are they actually drawing the image in #2? Or studying it?

Fascinating - an unusual (at least to me) and interesting profession.

Definately, same for me Jer.

Julia - thanks for showing the finished work aswell.
So now I assume it's the iconographer's job to analyse the religious symbols/icons in the painting?

I apologise if you don't like the link - but these reminds me a lot of certain popular fiction books by Dan Brown

No, the iconographer's job is to paint the icon. Dan Brown's job is to make up a load of nonsense ( and money) about supposed symbols in iconography. While there is a lot of symbolism in Western religious art, the same does not apply to Eastern Orthodox iconography. This icon simply shows two historical events from the Old Testament: Abraham meeting the three Angels at the oak of Mamre and the sacrifice of Isaac.

These are very interesting, not something one sees usually, either in photos or IRL. Always welcome contributions, thanks.

BTW, for some reason I had thought you're a man and was surprised to see your name in the pics. Was even more surprised when I googled your name. Some interesting namesakes...

I like the shadow effect on the first image - it makes me think of how the artist puts part of himself/herself into their art.

Great shot
