Purple Hands
Posted By: joeyc, 11-11-2009, 08:56 AM

This was a shot I did for a client a few weeks back. The client is a family run Vineyard and they wanted a shot of the 'hands' for their tasting room. Obviously the purple was from the grapes - this particular day was the pressing.

I can't take credit for the barrel idea, but I have to admit that it makes the shot. When they suggested they wanted such a shot, the DA15 seemed perfect for such a shot.

K2000 with DA15
ISO 320
F6.3
1/180
AF-360 diffused

Lightroom and Lightzone from the original DNG

It's obviously heavily processed. I try to steer away from over processing images, but felt that it was needed for such a shot - to emphasize the stains on their hands and grain on the barrel. May not work for some, but hopefully there are a few here that appreciate the outcome.

If anyone has some suggestions or ideas to make this better, I am all ears. This will probably be the signature shot from this particular shoot, so I want this to perfect for them.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks. I didn't want to do anything to your photo without your permission.

Here's my attempt:

I hope I didn't butcher your work.
I guess I am destined to always be the odd man out.
I think that the black and white version is very powerful, indeed.
All it needs is a pristine white rose in the centre to give it some meaning.

I think the vignetting does not fit this photo at all. Vignetting draws your attention to the middle, but there's nothing going on in the middle of your photo.

That is a great point. Thank you for sharing that perspective. It never crossed my mind, but you are absolutely right. I will have to take a second look at it this weekend. Thanks again.

Hence my suggestion of the winery label or white rose.
