My friends were competing in the Fall 2009 DanceSport competition at BYU this weekend and asked me to come along and take some pictures. I only had my trusty fast 50 and the 18-55, which I soon discovered was far too short for the venue; nevertheless, I did my best and cropped. I also took a couple shots after the competition, bouncing the flash off the ceiling. These turned out a whole lot better than the others.

(all shots taken with K10, dance floor pics taken with FA 50, others with 18-55).

PS: let me know if these are taking forever to load, I'm trying something different with my image hosting.

They are taking a long time to load.

You might have been better off using ISO800 so that you could close down the aperture to f/11 and/or increase your shutter speed. Focusing is off on most of these.

Ok, I'm gonna try replacing the pics today with smaller resolution. You mention f/11- both of the dance pics are under f/2.8

I only looked at one exif.
So why use such a wide aperture, you had plenty of ISO and shutter to maneuver with? The object for photos like this is to get them in focus.

I guess I was concerned with noise at high ISO's, but I guess focus is more important than noise
