Sample shots with SMC 135-600mm
Posted By: mole, 11-17-2009, 12:43 PM

Purchased a used SMC 135-600 F6.7 about a month ago, and noticed that there are no reviews of this lens in the Forum database. So here are a few sample photos, and I will post my review of the lens soon. Hope you enjoy these, and glad for any comments/constructive criticism.

I would kill for that lens, all I have is a Tamron 300 f5.5 and a Vivitar 400mm f5.6 (preset) for my long lenses. However, I did find a SMC-M 85mm f2.0 today at a local shop. He wants $200.00 USD for it though.
200 Bucks for a M 85/2 seems to be too much to me. It is sure a nice little lens, widely underappreciated - and that should be the reason for a lower price tag. Try to bargain it down to 160...

I believe this lens is 37 inches long fully extended. A thing of beauty. Mel, down girl! JIM

Hi! My original language is russian, so sorry for my terrible english
Is there anybody, who have Pentax K 135-600/6.7 ?
Can you help me ?
I also buy it. But my lens is very used and came to me without a hood.
Can anybody make some engeneering measurements to make the completely engeneering drawing of your hood for this lens? I'll try to order it on manufacturing plant in my city.
And send me more photos of this hood on the lens and separately.

Thank you.

Very nice series of photos, I have never heard of this lens but it sure looks like a keeper! I really like the first shot with that chipmunk with his nut, its very sharp and nicely composed as well.

Thanks for sharing,
Cory

Mole, could you please tell me what body you have this lens mounted on? It does not work on my K10D

Could you explain, what doesn't work on your K10. This lens should be compatible within its limits (being an old and manual lens).

Here are two photos of the lens, as you requested:

I have an 800mm f8-32 that is about as big (27 something inches, almost 8 pounds). It does start conversations, and makes a nice telescope.

That one looks pretty good though I would try bumping the contrast a bit.

Well you've got yourself a keeper there.
The first 3 images are sharp and nicely contrasted.
The last couple are off on focus.

Mel - Thanks for your kind words - you have some great bird, etc. shots posted here!

Here are two photos of the lens, as you requested:

A great lens, I owned one years ago.
Do we have the same tripod too?!!....Mine is a Manfrotto ART190....the head with those "levers" looks the same.
I agree with the comments on the photos.....BUT, focussing these things at long focal lengths is a nightmare...I found it difficult.
I wonder what these things cost new. Mine was a bayonet mount which I used with my LX....now that I'm "mucking around" with my black SP 11, I might have to look for one in screw mount......but, it'd have to be like yours, which looks to be in beautiful condition.
Cheers, Pickles.

Before Winter Hits

Hey there,

Well, despite how things are currently with my health, that shot of your system in the field really made me want to head down to Salt Creek and take a few shots of the local Water Rat population!

The industrious little fellows (Muskrats actually) should provide for some quality frames.

Winter will be here soon and my body doesn't do well with it anymore...which is a pity, because Wyoming fauna provide for some really great wildlife shots!

Cheers and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

This lens comes with the mount right? All we just need is a strong tri-pod.

Thank you.
