Very nice series, you have been busy. What kind of snake is a "rat snake"?

Heinrich:

the Rat Snake is a Black Rat Snake, a Canadian constrictor. Officially grows to seven feet in length, but I've handled them up to eight feet. Fortunately, they are the friendliest snakes you could ever meet.

Great shots Tom. That blackbird (crow?) Looks just about ready to give someone the business!. Also loved the turtles and the rat snake.
Those goldfinches sure are pretty too, even the "dowdy" females.

Nice Pic's Tom.

It looks like I'll be at my turtle lake on Sunday, and with a little luck I might even have the chance to photograph Canada's only poisonous snake. (although I still hate snakes, that's 1 reason why I bought my Sigma 135-400)

Great shots, all of them but nr 3 is the icing on the cake.
Might be that I'm more partial to black birds but that one is just wow

everytime I see your photos Tom I want to walk to the camera store, buy the biggest lens they have, walk out and try to do half of what you do. You are such a wonderful bird/animal photographer that it pains me to even try anymore lol. Well time for me to save money for a new lens.

Fantastic! Hard to pick one favorite but the pissed-off Blackbird looks to have real character.

Maybe I missed it earlier, but what lens are you using for these great shots?

Good shots all! Hard to pick favorites, but as I'm partial to birds I'll go for all of 'em... ) I like the intent expression on the Grackle, and you did well in capturing its blue/black sheen. Which Pentax are you shooting with?

Best Wishes,
Steve

I'll just say Wow! ... I'm hard pressed to choose a favourite from them but the blackbird shot does really have character.

J. Scott & Steve

The lens used for all these shots is my FA*300 on my K100.

Congrats to Steve for properly ID'ing the Grackle.
