It's a fantastic photo, although I wish the depth of field was a big larger. I love praying mantises, but I've never seen one quite like that... Awesome.

I believe this was shot at or around F/16 so any more and diffraction would have occurred

Cool!!
My parents always joke around saying this is where they got the idea for alien movies after seeing them up close
The eyes are definitely a trip to look at

A petrified praying mantis... creepy.
Would have been nice to have a slightly deeper DoF but I do like the colour and spot on focusing.

Yeah, there's always something that makes you go "DOH!!" after reviewing your images.... All looks fine in the viewfinder lol

Thanks for the compliment ash

Very nice capture - although the DOF is quite small, you have nailed the focus, and it works well.

A very cool shot! You really nailed the focus!

Like the others, I wish for more DOF. I wouldn't even worry about diffraction, particularly with such a sharp lens. The very slight degradation in IQ would be more than offset by the increased composition.

Out of curiosity, how would more DOF help the shot's composition?

Also, the general rule of thumb with macro is the eyes must be in focus, and in this case the whole head of the insect is in focus. If I were to go say F/22 or w/e I would still have just a part of the shield and the raptorial legs in focus......
