Oh the DETAIL!

Tom, these are awesome! The detail and color is exceptional. How close were you to the birds and were these crops?

Tom, I want to break into some birding shots when I get my K10D but don't have much except sparrows and starlings in my yard, which is OK for starters. Could you tell me, are you using a blind or do you have a feeder set up outside your window? The color and clarity of these shots are excellent.

Nice - very sharp - I prefer the former - Blue Jays don't count - sound like fingernails on a chalkboard!

Thanks!

I was probably 10-15 feet away from these birds and they were cropped to vertical. I've been having problems with jays getting too close and not being able to fit the whole bird in the frame, as witnessed by this jay shot.

I don't use a blind for bird photos. I had a feeder in a tree for these and just sit still until the birds get halfway used to me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't go so well.

I probably take 20 shots to get one decent one - especially when the light is poor and I have to use slower-than-I-want shutter speeds.
