Moon Photo with my K100dS
Posted By: nanoamps, 11-24-2009, 11:03 PM

Shot this tonight by hand-holding the Camera to the telescope eyepiece.
8" f6 Scope with a 35mm eyepiece. Used my 18-55 kit lens at 5.6. 1/250 exposure.

Very nice. Can you give more details on equipment? Just curious.

Not much left to submit.
The scope has an 8" diameter mirror at f6 giving it a 48inch focal length, which is 1219mm. So the magnification of the scope calculates as: 35mm (eyepiece) divided by 1219mm (main obj) = 34.8 power.
Pretty low magnification really. But I zoomed the 18-55 Pentax lens to frame the moon, so that more than doubled the magnification (prob about 2.5) to result somewhere around 88 X.
I had the ISO set at 800 so I could hand-hold. The camera was set on manual exposure because auto exposure always overexposes Moon shots.
