Eagle and osprey
Posted By: borno, 06-10-2007, 12:19 PM

I don't like to work on sunday (and miss church), but I got a neat shot of an osprey and an immature bald eagle having a little territorial spat. Taken with an old 400mm f5.6 vivitar (tokina).

Wow, this shot is spetacular! What an action to catch on camera. Did the eagle drop to the ground in the end?

Thanks James,
No the eagle didn't drop he flipped upside down with his claws out to fend off the osprey but I don't think they made contact. I think they both want to nest in the same area.

Cool stuff, I believe all this would just happen within the seconds of timeframe. Who should have won the contest?

Thank you all for your kind comments, I was mostly just lucky. My new extreme III card helped alot too. I'm hoping to get a nice sharp long lens with my birthday coming up.

Good one!

Nice shot, Tom!

I've witnessed this type of action between eagles and ospreys a couple of times, but couldn't capture the action with my camera.

James- the osprey is faster and more agile, while the eagle is a lot more powerful. If they actually hooked up, the osprey would not last long...
