An Engaging Episode
Posted By: Sailor, 12-01-2009, 08:28 AM

Although I love to look at well-executed, perfectly produced posed portraits, I've never had much interest in doing portrait photography myself - perhaps a reaction to the fact that I'm not much good at it. However, my daughter, Robin, asked me to shoot some "engagement" photos while she and her fiance visited us during the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm no better at this than I ever was, but we had some fun - here are a few examples.

Our sense of celebration was heightened over Thanksgiving, not only because of Rob's engagement, but also because she successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation (neuroscience, Ohio State) last Tuesday . . . so she's now Dr. Robin. Starting in January, she'll be doing a postdoc at Stanford, where her future husband also is doing postdoctoral studies.

Double congrats.. Dr Robin (neuroscience!!!wow!!) and engagement. You must be one proud Dad!

As for the photos, the distortion kills it for me for the last one. next time, consider stitching the shots.

I'm proud, indeed. The last one, of course, was no more than frivolous fun - but it might be a good image had I taken time to approach it differently.
