Warm Welcome
Posted By: nate_b, 12-02-2009, 10:23 PM

My sister was gracious enough to host Thanksgiving at her place in Colorado this year. I brought along the K-x and took far too many photos trying to familiarize myself with the camera (my first DSLR). I liked this shot of her and attempted a basic B&W conversion from the out of camera jpeg using my limited pp skills with GIMP. Thanks for looking.

Strange. Does it appear now? Thanks for the "heads-up," Ash.

That's better.
An OK portrait. But for critique there would be a few points I'd make. The window highlight is bright and distracting. It makes lighting of the subject good, but affects the dynamic of the portrait. The rest of the image is relatively dark, which makes it hard to appreciate the subject.

The space above your sister's head is not all that important in the image. Perhaps a landscape orientation would have suited better to get more of the flowers and your sister in the frame.

Thanks, Ash. Your C&C is much appreciated, as always. I agree on each point and appreciate the learning opportunity presented. All the best.
