On the streets of Paris
Posted By: RBellavance, 12-03-2009, 06:33 AM

On a recent trip to Paris, I finally took my first baby steps in the wonderful world of street photography. The results are far from perfect, and basically no one is ever looking at me in the photos, but I really liked the experience and I hope to do this more in the future.

All the pictures were made with my K-7, and the lens used is listed below each image. The DA21 I bought specifically for this unsurprisingly saw the most action.

1.

Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 Limited
f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/25s

2.

Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 Limited
f/8.0, ISO 400, 1/320s

3.

Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 Limited
f/5.6, ISO 200, 1/125s

4.

Pentax FA 35mm f/2.0
f/8.0, ISO 400, 1/100s

nice ones, 3 is awesome - it would have been interesting to see the focus a bit tighter on the lil gal's face.

cheers

Great series - thanks for sharing.

3 & 4 would be my pick - 4 has a very classic feel to it - well done!

Nice set. I really like #4, it just puts everything in its place and tells and has that classic look.

Thanks everyone, I had a lot of fun taking these pictures, and I'm glad I'm not the only one enjoying them.

Excellent series, I'd choose number 3 as my definite favourite with 4 a close second.

seems like you were nervous when taking these shots? lots of motion blur.. relax buddy

just act like a typical 'dumb' tourist.. walk around with the lonely planet guide book and shoot. people (especially locals) will just ignore you. works for me hehe

Brings back so many memories, love that city. I do remember the street in no. 4, yes I remember walking through that street at 5am at -1'C trying to get back to the hotel after been marooned on the otherside of Paris because we couldn't find a decent taxi that wouldn't rip us off to take us home, so we had to wait for the subway to open...luckily the hotel was about 200m from the Eiffel.

I definitely was nervous, and shot too quickly in some cases, and I need to practice zone focusing a lot more. But I also need to pay closer attention to the shutter speed; 1/25s for people walking is much too slow...

She was trying to get people to hand over their spare change is what I understood

Great series!! Number 3 in the first series should be on a museum wall - well done.
