Holiday Guitar (f/1.2 OOF Xmas tree bokeh content)
Lens: 55mm Camera: K10D ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/15s Aperture: F1.2
Posted By: mikeSF, 12-09-2009, 10:20 AM

I still cannot get enough of the Christmas tree bokeh effect, so I brought out one of my favorite subjects, my '99 Bob Benedetto handmade 7-string guitar, and put it in front of the Christmas tree for a few snaps. The lens is the Cosina 55mm f/1.2, shot wide open using window light and no other lighting.

Implementing feedback received in my last thread, I tried to aim more light on the subject to de-emphasize the background a little...but let's be honest, the only reason I took the pics was to see those crazy colored circles...woowee!

OK, on to the photos - I hope you like 'em:

#2 ("look at the flame on that one...")

Very nice beauty shots you have there. It took a minute for me to figure out the bokeh multi-colored background. You may get some comments on the camera shake, but it works for me.

The lens be damned! I'm drooling over the guitar. In all honesty, great shots of a beautiful instrument. Thanks for sharing.

thanks, here is a full length shot of the guitar. Mr. Benedetto is considered by many to be the best in the business.

Very nice. I like them all. the bokeh is just wonderful and in my estimation, the point of focus for each is well chosen.

Those are great Mike! Looks like a beautiful guitar... I have to say that I'm with you though - you could take OOF pictures of just the lights and post about 1,000 of 'em and I'd just sit and page through 'em all day... So compelling!

thanks for that. The Cosina adds a bit of "artistic" no matter where you aim it.

thx JMR. with such thin DOF, it is hard to know where to focus, that's for sure.
