DA 15mm Examples
Posted By: Sailor, 12-10-2009, 05:02 PM

I bought my DA 15 months ago and posted several examples of the kind of images I can make it produce throughout the year. For some reason, I've gotten some recent queries about the lens, and - while I responded to these privately - they prompted me to post some additional images that demonstrate the good, bad and ugly of the lens. Also, I needed to practice posting pictures; at my age you forget stuff quickly.

I'm SO tempted to purchase this lens, and you are doing NOTHING to deter me.

#1 is a standout, in my opinion. Great use of the wide angle and perspective to make an imposing subject even moreso. #5 is also impressive, with incredible "pop" and 3D rendering. Nice work.

Regards,
Nate

That is a great lens you've got there Jer! Brilliant colour too!

#1 is very powerful (in more than one way) whilst #5 is great fun, and #6 takes me back to 1950's movies

Interesting, these images highlight the virtue of a moderate wide angle. My old Canon 24mm f2.8 lens (on my pre EOS 35mm SLR) had about the same perspective and was my favourite lens with its sharpness and negligible distortion. This lens looks to have much the same features - thanks for adding to my LBA shopping list.....

Cheers

Super sharp pics, Jer. Just curious, but on #3 at about the 2:00 o'clock position, is that a flare spot or is it your fingerprint?

Very crisp captures, all of these, Jer.
I noticed the spot in #3 too - definitely flare.

Thanks for the very kind words, Nate. I think you'd like a DA 15; I'm certainly enjoying mine.

Tom and Ash - thanks for the compliments and . . . . yup . . . . . that's flare (the "bad" I mentioned in the OP). Actually, I find the lens to be remarkable resistant to flare, but here I obviously challenged it a bit too much (I like flare in some images, but not in this one).

That's one sweet lens Jer. Get the #1 picture to fire a shot at the #2 picture.

The last would look great as a sepia. IMPO
