All I can see in my own shots are the flaws. Thoughts?

An image like this goes way beyond just the image quality and pixels.

To me, this image is fantastic because it captures an emotional moment and encompasses a story in a single shot. You did a great job capturing this image.

Emotions plus here.
It's the moment and what it conveys that makes it what it is.
It's a tough one even with fill flash, but if any improvement can be done, it will now be in PP with dodging of the subjects and burning of the blown background highlights.

In that a title can impart spin, how does the story change if the image is entitled "So far from Anzio"? Is this even needed or is it best simply standing on its own as an image?

I've also tried working on the image a bit more. The problem I find is that it doesn't seem possible to bring out details that are not there.

Fantastic. This pic tells a story in just a sight. Maybe it´s not perfect but moves so much that there´s nothing to say. My admiration.

Just about moved me to tears. I attended a scene similar to this one not too long ago. I live outside of Ft. Bragg and lost a dear friend and watched his son receive the flag.

Your photo is not perfectly exposed (which considering the circumstances is near impossible, really), but you captured a great moment, and you did it well. The girl has no idea what's going on but her grandmother knows all too well.
