Taking Flight

I've been chasing birds lately...
This oen took off just as I was tripping the shutter. The color version bites, to be honest. Lots of burning and dodging but what do you think?

I think you did well to go with B&W it does save this picture I am sure (wanna post the color one ?) - it is too bad the wings are not in focus that would have been great. That said I think you did as much as you could. The picture has nice DOF and framing. You can tell it is a bird leaving the scene flying into the Bokeh

Tough one Dan. It does look interesting.

I took some similar pic's yesterday and got really lucky with one... the same situation I just squeezed the trigger when he took off.

This turned out very well, almost museum-ish as in looks like something I've seen at a museum. Very well done and I should go through some of my pics and see if B&W can save some of them.

that's kinda what I was going for - I might get the opportunity to show my stuff at a local museum, I like the blurry wings and the OOF areas in the background, so I was definitely going for a more "artsy" look.

little laker: Stu I just saw your "got lucky" shot - very nice.

daacon - don't have time this morning, if I get a chance to get on the computer in the afternoon I'll post the color one.

Great...

I love this shot in B&W. It has a haunting 'feel' to it almost 'Hitchcockian'. I found myself just staring at it soaking up the atmosphere you've created. The crop is so much better than the original colour version. It's great to see a photograph that inspires even further creative possibilities. If you ever get the opportunity again I'd like to see it without the bushes in the foreground.
