Interesting subject - unfortunately very underexposed. Here's where you needed around +1 EV.
You can always boost exposure in PP.

That's what it looks like...

Dec. 20th in New England at twilight looks just like that. And unfortunately that dreary image is how it feels here on the shortest day in the year. That's why they invented Christmas lights!

But I feel the dreariness has a place.

That is all well and good but you were there so you have the experience as well as the image. The viewer only has the image so they just see something that is underexposed. Photography isn't about recording reality

Sure, I could have made it lighter...

but twilight is what I was showing. Blinding white snow is easy. Granted it's a drab look but it exists visually and emotionally.

It was once said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Can't the same be said about the pictures we take? I want the picture I take to resemble what I saw & remember in my mind's eye although my mind's eye is not what it use to be. I can identify with your picture, with that mood if you will. Personally, I like the pic. They make chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc. ice cream because different people like different things. To quote Jerry Seinfeld, "There's nothing wrong with that".

But Neil, is it Pensky material...

After all I did use the smaller lens (to paraphrase George Costanza).

You were out in that snow, out in the cold! You put a lot of work into it. Yes, I think it qualfies as Pensky material.
