Great shot and great detail under difficult conditions! I know how hard it is to shoot a hawk when the contrast between the bird and the background is so extreme

Thanks Jan, with the bright overcast and shooting with the hawk backlit I didn't hold out much hope of this shot turning out but it surprized me and reminded me of Japanese drawings somehow.

Tough shot. I blew a shot like this of a bald eagle about three weeks ago. I think you did great.

beautiful!

Critically, slightly unsharp in the eyes and beak compared to the wing/tail plumage and branches. Not that I could have done any better!

Really, a gorgeous shot.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. I've since done a slightly tighter crop to get rid of the branch on the lower left and cloned out the oof branches in the upper half of the right hand side. Much nicer that way...

Scott, that is a great image. Very difficult conditions, good result. Well done, couldn't have done anything near.....
