they came out of the icy fog (red deer)
Lens: DA55-300 Camera: K-7 Photo Location: Alvar fields, island of Öland, Baltic Sea

A cold foggy winter day on the Alvar fields on the island Öland in the Baltic sea. This area is protected both as an UNESCO world herritage and a national park. In summer it is a haven for birds with plenty of rare orchides and other flowers (it all rest on a limestone plateau).

This is what the area looks like from a tower with the DA*16-50.

From the ground we spotted two groups of European red deer (I think this is correct translation of Swedish "kronhjort"). Shot with the DA55-300mm.

Good shots and interesting background information, Douglas. That environment looks a bit cold!

Excellent series. Really like the first shot, but the others also have wonderful context brought to life in what appears to be a harsh environment.

Impressive series Douglas!

#3, #4 and #5 are really good - thought I was looking at a glossy wildlife book!

Cheers

Thanks! Indeed, it was cold, and felt even colder due to the high relative humidity (remember it is close to the Baltic sea).

Thanks! I will probably post another serie from the same place with more landscape shots. So keep an eye open since you liked the first one.

Many thanks! These are also my favorites.
The DA55-300 is quite a good lens for a consumer zoom and for the price.

Thanks!

That landscape, especially with the deer walking/running there, strikes me as some sort of froozen version of the African savanna.
