Consider posting your images for C&C under the Photo Critique section of the forum.
The kit lens doesn't do a bad job at close-focus images, but there may need to be some PP adjustments to make the results 'pop' some more, as with here.
The central position of the flower would be OK if there was nothing else in the frame to distract the viewer, or it were cropped to just show the flower, but again the background behind the flower is also in the way.
The ordinary lighting (on-camera flash) doesn't bring out the textures and finer tonal details of the subject and as such renders the image flatly and less interestingly.
If just using the kit lens, look for subjects a little larger than this one to photograph, fill the frame with the subject, work around with your ambient light source rather than rely on your on-camera flash to provide you with all the light for your exposures and work on different perspectives and angles for more interesting results.
