Yellow Flowers in the Okanagan
Posted By: channeler, 06-24-2007, 10:49 AM

Having a first try using Pornflake's idea of linking to Flickr so not sure if I've got it right. I found these yellow flowers growing all over a mountainside above Oliver in the Okanagan Valley. Wasn't sure if they were wild or escaped cultivated ones. Anyone know what they are. Picked up a few cactus spines in my shoes and clothing for my pains.

PS: Couldn't get flickr to work. Now using photobucket which so far I am finding both quick and easy.

I could always ask the flowers identity on another forum if you'd like Paul

All that I know about flowers is the colour and what I think looks good

I've had some of those cactus stuck in me int he past. The first time I was on a hike climbing up a small rock face when I touched 1 with my hand. When I pulled back it ended up flying and sticking into my chest
When I reached the top I had to pull it out and use my needle nose pliers (on my knife) to pull the needles out.

They appear to have a mild poison in them, so they cause a little discomfort the first few times you get them in you.

Thanks Stu, yes I'd be interested to know what they are. Those cactus needles are vicious. You don't even seem to feel them at first; they are so sharp, like hyperdermics. Still struggling to make the flickr link work. I was hoping to try to get a thumbnail to display on this page. Will keep trying. I've had some trouble trying to upload to this forum's gallery direct.

I hope that you don't mind Paul, I had to save it to my own web space to display the pic on the other forum. Here's the picture
