"WIF" = Woodpecker In Flight
Lens: 210 mm Camera: K-m Photo Location: Tennessee ISO: 400 Aperture: F5.6
Posted By: mole, 01-21-2010, 05:28 AM

While working to clear fallen limbs on a park trail, I noticed a rather bold Downy Woodpecker. Only had a shorter lens on the camera (A 70-210), so tried some stalking. Did not get close enough for a good photo, but did scare her enough to get a pretty nice WIF (Woodpecker In Flight) shot!

Come visit sunny Tennessee and I'll be glad to take you out to hike with the woodpeckers!

Thanks for any comments & critique.

I like the WIF also, and wonder how close you can crop and still get good resolution?

I can't really judge that from what I can copy directly. Care to post a tight crop at 1:1?

Thanks for all the kind words - I appreciate the input. Hope to get some better shots once my "new" A* 300 arrives!

Lowell asked for some 100% crops - so you can see how bad the actual focus is on these. Glad to oblige (hope I did these correctly...)

thanks for the crops.

the one sitting still looks quite good.

I was hoping the BIF was as sharp, except for the wing sweep, if it was it would have been a nice shot cropped tight,
