Mountain Bike Racing in SoCal
Camera: K-7 Photo Location: Fontana ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/180s

These were all taken with K-7 with 16-50mm and they were flashed with a Canon 580exII flash - sometimes remotely with Pocket Wizard Flex tt5. The panning shots were ~1/80.

Very nice work on a topic that is more challenging than it looks. Your work with remote and fill flash is nicely done and in most of the images is balanced quite nicely. Some interesting angles of view too.

nice captures! did you prefocus and waited for the action to come to you on some of these shots?

#6 & #7 were pre-focused. I was holding the camera about 4 inches off the ground about 6 inches from the trail so there is no way I was going to get my head down there. I was using the rock on the right side of the trail as my landmark to know when to pull the trigger for both the focus and the off-camera strobe. Even shooting from the hip like that I hardly did any adjustment to the cropping.

Every other shot was AF-C
