Day trip Phantom fall
Posted By: roentarre, 11-24-2006, 10:07 PM

Today was really warm with merciless sun. I went for a drive to a place not on my melway map. North east of yarraville national park - 2 hour drive with 1 hour of torturous drive in the winding roads.

Then I was so stupid enough not to wear jeans and shoes to do this trekking. I had never seen so many brown snakes in one day of my life.

Few shots to share

This pic took me 2 km walk steep uphill to get it. so many misquittos around.

then I walked to another trail called Keppel fall trail - a long long hiking again, carrying all my gear as well with tripod. Sore legs now

Sun was too harsh when i saw this sight along my walk

Thanks for looking

I am heading to dinner happy snapping

What! No snakes!

I like the composition on the yellow flower shot. Thanks for sharing your trip/venture.

Brown snakes are ranked as 3rd wordly most deadly snakes! I was wearing sandles walking through these dense foliage - having palpitations all day

I would return with proper gear next time

Beautiful!

Beautiful photos of beautiful landscapes.

I had no idea Australia had such sights. I always had this flat, outbacky type of terrain pictured as covering the whole continent, with Ayer's Rock the only bump on the landscape.

Next time- could you get some close-ups of the brown snakes?

Not sure I'd like the brown snake and sandal combo! Very nice shots Roentarre. I've wanted to try some moving water with slow shutter shots for a while now.

I did notice the CCD sensors of k100d - it does not do too well when there is intense highlight with shadow areas in a photo frame. Actually all cameras cannot do too well with such scene. In Australia, most of trees carried dark green eukalypt leaves that confer very dark hues on the photos - almost black colour. Sun being so harsh most of the time would give spots of intense light through gaps among the canopy of leaves, projecting a dilemma of getting details in shadow and burnt out pixels in the highlight for the shots

To tom, Victoria is at the bottom of australia - hence much cooler and wetter. It does have a lot of forests that are not marketed for tourism. (Though northern territory is much much more beautiful of course). Brown snakes are not beautiful, it has the colour like the brown leaves on the ground... I might try but I am snake phobic

To Scott Devon - I would have to get 8+ neutral density filter next time to do water fall shots.

I really like your used of forground detail for background composition.
The little yellow flower is especially striking, but then again they are all quality.
