Wild turkeys...
Lens: 560mm effective Camera: 5DII Photo Location: Norcal foothills ISO: 1600
Posted By: heliphoto, 01-27-2010, 10:03 PM

Saw this group of turkeys crossing the road in front of me yesterday (google tells me it's a "rafter" of turkeys - weird)... Luckily, I still had my camera sitting in the passenger seat, so I could just roll down the window and start shooting. I drove up pretty close, but these birds didn't seem the least bit concerned (a real turkey shoot!)...

Dude, those are great shots (esp #2 and #4)! I can't seem to get within 100 yds of a wild turkey around here...

Not the kind of shooting I normally associate with Turkey's but very cool

I've never seen a rafter that big (we call them a gang in my circle of uneducated friends).

Very cool. And this was in Northern California? I didn't even know there were wild turkeys there. I'd love to see some. Great shots - it always pays to have a trusty Pentax with you at all times.

They're not bad, but I am so disappointed because I was expecting to see some people that I know.

Thanks Jim - California turkeys just seem dumb (maybe they're just stoned)... whenever I've come across them, the have just sort of wandered along doing what they were already doing, like I'm not even there.

Well I did just read "rafter" on a web site or two, so it may be "correct" and still not used by real people. Glad you like the shots, thank for looking and commenting.

Yeah - Northern / Central Cal., in the foothills west of Yosemite. I've seen 'em all up and down Hwy 49, but this was the first time I was ready with a camera. Glad you like the shots (but I must admit there wasn't a pentax in sight , my new cam starts wich C.)

I'll keep my eye out for some Jackasses and post 'em if I see 'em, that should cover some of the people I know too ...
