Is there any favorite B/W conversion programs you guys use regularly? I just did a quick conversion in E7 here using Virtual Photographer Plug-in, but am interested in what some of you use?
Regards!

Nice candid - that face has a lot of character and I'll bet a few stories. I just use PS and a Gorman-Holbert action I found (google it it was free). I hear good thinks about Nik software though (Silver Effect Pro) - not cheap but they have free 15 day trials.

Hey Ruper - great portrait. Looks to me like you can already make great conversions with what you've got.

Dave, I will give that program a try. I think the Nik software is too expensive for what it does.....Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

Thanks Sailor!....It is not a bad conversion, but I always look for new or beter ways.
Regards!

well done... some may laugh/scoff..... i've had success with the free picassa and even flick's conversion tools...yes, they are rudimentary and limited, but not bad considering picassa is free and flickr can be had for a small fee.........

Great portrait!
I just use LightRoom for my conversions. It's easy, but not automated, you have to adjust everything manually, because the B&W conversion of LR is just a matter of desaturation.....so it'll give flat results....

Rupert,

I use the channel mixer technique shown in this tutorial.
Methods of Black and White Conversion - Tutorials

Here is an example.

I've also heard good things about the plug-in you used (Virtual Photographer). Here is a link for this free plug-in.

Welcome to optikVerve Labs - Home of virtualPhotographer

Tim

PS: Great imgae and a very nice conversion - not sure you really need any help.
