Snowmageddon - The Day After
Camera: K-7 Photo Location: around my neighborhood
Posted By: mel, 02-07-2010, 04:41 PM

Okay here's the day after. Beautiful, clear, and sunny. And lots and lots of snow laying around.

At my house we only had human-powered shovels to work with. Not fancy schmancy snowblowers like this one.

Hey Mel - I don't know whether or not you intended for these shots to be "documentary", but they sure do make good photography - the third one is really wonderful in my view, and all are good.

I guess you got the "eye" - even when the circumstances are . . . . . unpleasant.

Thanks for posting these.

Thanks again Jer. It wasn't so bad once we got the power back on. Running water is a glorious thing. Regardless of my purpose in shooting I still like to try to make them pretty. I may print up a few from these storms to hang on the wall during the summer when we're melting in the heat and humidity.

Thinking of you

Mel: As I read about Snowmageddon I think of all my friends on the Atlantic Seaboard - glad you are well and have power again, and are taking such nice photographs.

My daughter lives in the DuPont Circle neighborhood in D.C. She says she's never seen anything like this, and we get snow here!

Thanks and yes it can. It's actually been rather nice to have a different view of the same boring road and trees that I see very day of my life.

It's unreal. It's an unbelieveably huge quantity all at once. My driveway reminded me of the parking lots at ski resorts on a really good year. We drove around a little yesterday and a Wal-Mart had it's lot kind of cleared up. The plowed-snow mountains reached halfway up the lightpoles. This stuff is going to be around for a while. Especially with more on the way. And thanks for the nice word on the images.

I was just reading that since 1883, this is the first season with two 20+ snowfalls in the Baltimore/Washington region.

Mel, you've shown wonderful pics!
Great colour, nice and crisp, just very good.
I like the two portrait ones next to each other,
they make a fine couple!!

Thanks! There were usually three of us shoveling at any given point and it was still a huge job. But really, although I wouldn't want to do it everyday, I didn't mind it so much. Good exercise and keeps you warm!

Thanks and no kidding. Everything wants to be blue.

Thanks Charlie. I'm betting pretty much everyone in this area is wishing they had one. Or their own personal snowplow. That would be good too.

Thanks! Looking at those two you mentioned again, the close up was taken off one of the trees in the other one. I really didn't think about that when I put them next to each other but yeah you're right. Thanks for noticing!
