A river now runs through it
Camera: K10d Photo Location: Washington State

I didn't have a lot of time to take photos this weekend but I managed to sneak away on Saturday morning to visit a road closed by flood damage in 2006. At that time, high river levels created a new side channel which now runs through the center of the road for a half mile before it returns to the river.

On my way to the closure, I stopped off at a small creek which had some nice cascading sections near the bridge that crosses it.

I know that photographers will wet down roads to get a better picture, but this is taking it to a new level. LOL!

Great shots. I really like 4 & 5. They do a good job of telling the story of a unique event.

Very nice, Steve (especially #5!). Where was the road washout located?

Thanks everyone! Glad you enjoy them.

This particular road (Index-Galena Road) is a spur road off of US-2 on the way to Stevens Pass. It's in the heart of the Cascades and parallels the North Fork Skykomish River above the town of Index. The current plan to repair the road is to move the road upslope and outside of the channel migration zone but the repair is still years away.

(looks at Google maps) Yeah, I can see that piece of road being at risk... I've never been upstream from Index. Just went downstream to the rock-climbing area a few times (WAAAAYYYY back when I was in good enough shape to do such things...). Great set of photos, as usual. The perspective and viewpoint of number 5 is just something ya never see.

The last is the weakest link IMO.
I love all the rest of the series.
Well done
