My first SLR shots.. w/ K-x, DA-L 18-55mm
Lens: 18-55 Camera: Pentax K-x Photo Location: Columbus, OH; Art Museum or Franklin Park Conservatory

My first SLR.. Pics are using 18-55 kit lens.

Disclaimer....... Most of these are almost certainly technically abysmal. If you've got a helpful pointer, please share.. EXIF will reveal high ISO on the illumated glass shots, .. that was my error, I hadn't adjusted the camera properly.

I'm a bit intimidated to share these here, but I figure you've gotta start somewhere, and it seems like a good first step

Wow - I think these shots have top-notch color and composition - I don't "pixel-peep" photographs, but these look technically fine to me.

Congrats on the new camera - seems you already know how to use it well.

Welcome aboard Cybe! Some nice work. keep it up.

I didn't know BJ's was up north. It's one of my favorite places here in Plano TX to get a good hand crafted beer. The food is good too.

BJ's is awesome; Good to know I can find one if I head south!

I'm open to helpful tips. I plan to go back and try again, now that I have a slightly better understanding of the mechanics, and a clearer idea of what I want to accomplish.

(I want sharp, sharp, sharp.)

I don't know about "technical abysmal", but your photos are plain beautiful.

You big show-off

Really nice first post... you are gonna be just fine here! What camera did you come from?

For other newbies who have just got the kx it would be nice if you talk about what setting you are using on the camera.

I really like #2 - crop out the mirror and it's perfect.

I'm really shocked by the positive responses, I thought I'd get torn to shreds

Picture three is (are) illuminated Chihuly glass sculture reflecting off the black glass floor.

The pink/white spires are about five feet tall.. I shot from knee-height. You can see some places where the light is interrupted by a power-cord running to an inverter/amplifier.

Great set of photos, super composition. You seem to have a really good eye. The only technical issue I saw was that the beer glasses could have been in focus a bit more (looks like the back of the plate on the left has the correct focus). As I learned the hard way, learn to use your camera's focal points. I took a shot of a bison that could potentially be hanging in a studio if the focus had been on his face rather than center frame (which happened to be his shoulder)

Very nice job, you have good reason to be pleased with these, even disregarding the fact that this is your first set with the new camera.
