Big white BIFs and a plug for Eric Hendrickson
Lens: 300mm Camera: K20D Photo Location: Virginia salt marsh ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/1500s Aperture: F9.5

After my DA*300mm did a nose dive onto the carpet from tripod height it snapped a plastic piece in the rear flange and required services of Eric Hendrickson whos name I pulled from the Forum references for repair. It was less than 2 weeks from when I sent it to today when I got it back in spite of the snow delays. He had to get a part from Pentax which took most of the time. Can't recommend him any higher. Cost was way less than I expected.

So I celebrated by taking it out to the marsh and shooting BIFs today.
first pic at f/6.7 and 1/3000, others at f/9.5 and 1/1500

one more, not white but 2m long and 30cm high...

Thank you. Doing it is no magic since I can't even call myself a real photographer yet. But big white bird in the sun is just spot meter, -1 EV and a fast shutter. Then you just walk the marsh until you scare one up. Oh, I am not good enough to do the manual focus thing for BIFs, I just use AF-C and time it to shoot just when the focus changes.

As a rule, I frown on killing but it is a terrific lens.

Those are really great photos, Lee. I can hardly wait 'til you get your hands on that 400mm.
