Rottnest Island w/ DA15mm
Lens: 15mm Camera: K200D Photo Location: Rottnest Island ISO: 200 Aperture: F11
Posted By: goddo31, 02-15-2010, 06:47 AM

I went to Rottnest Island for a day trip on Sunday, which gave me a great chance to test out my new DA15 limited. Love the wide FOV and the colour and contrast. Used a polariser on all of these; the only thing to note is that I had to dial in +1EV exposure compensation with the polariser...

1.

2.

3.

4. The newly renovated "Quokka Arms" pub/hotel. A historic building (for AUS) built in the earlier 1800s.

5. Tenders for the various vessels you can see in the bay

6. And a B&W because I can

comments and criticism welcome.

I'm glad you got a DA 15, Jason - - and it looks as if you already know how to use it. This is a very nice series - I particularly like #2.

Great job, buddy.

Looks like a lovely place to go. I like the last one, but it could do with a little more contrast.

Thanks Jer. Your DA15 shots played a sort of role in me eventually purchasing this beauty of a lens, as you may realise
Thanks for your comments. I felt the 15mm focal length was quite easy for me to get used to. IMO it's a great (fun) FL.

Carl - thanks for the comment. I'll try and have another look at that last one during the week and up the contrast. I was a little undecided as to whether to go more extreme with it. do you think the blacks/shadows could be pumped a bit more?

cheers,

Yep sure. I'd darken the blacks.

Thanks a lot. I was trying to compose with interesting foreground where possible, which meant (with 15mm) that I had to get real close to some of those dinghys. I was kneeling with my monopod a lot of the time, no doubt some people thought I was a bit silly

cheers,

Now this is simply cruel and unusual punishment, Jason. Not only are you posting lust-worthy images from a lens over which I'm currently lusting, but you're doing so from a location that looks like paradise while I'm subjected to day after day of rain and cold. That's messed up...

PS - #3 and #5 are my favorites.

+1

Can I ask if you compared the DA 15mm with DA 10-17mm when buying it?

Thanks tootall.
I didn't compare the DA15 with the fisheye, as I haven't really thought about getting a fisheye lens just yet. In case you are still interested, I bought the DA15 because:
- wanted a really wide prime (~14-16mm)
- really good IQ with nice contrast
- wanted useful a DoF scale, tiny metal body
- liked what I saw from other user's posts (Sailor, jsherman...)

Could probably meetup and show you at some point if you're interested. cheers,

Hey Jason, I really like your series! #1 and #2 are really good, good composition, colours, contrast and tones. I think #6 will look better with stronger contrast.

I have tried both at a workshop, and at the time having the versatility of 10-17 won me over (that and a child like amusement at 10mm and getting my feet in the shot ) . But I have wondered what the IQ between the two was like as I didn't really compare that at the time. Plus there I times I wish I could put a filter on.

Are you going to the RB Air Race?
