In Our Own Defense
Posted By: Sailor, 02-16-2010, 05:59 PM

While out shooting this afternoon, I spent some time studying a WWII-era coastal gun emplacement intended for defense from attack from the sea - never used, of course. Here are five shots I took - the last two converted to B&W, since this is a WWII period piece, after all. I used my DA 15 an DA 10-17 FE.

Thanks for doing the extra B&W conversions Jer, I do really like that first shot and the B&W version of it. That and the colour version are my favourites.

cheers,

Really like the fourth shot (b&W)

I took a while to figure this, but has oneone else noticed that the b&w treatment makes the gun look almost new and pristine, i.e. the rust has gone which is evident in the colour versions.

Could be a great technique for the capture of older machinery

Well seen and taken

Love the grainy version!! You can probably crop out that border if you don't like it (guessing based on the name you called it . . . )

Thanks a bunch - and you're right, the B&W takes years of the gun.

Thanks a lot, Mel - I appreciate it. Duh - I never thought of cropping the border off . Getting old . . . . . . . .

Thanks for looking. What branch were you in? I was in the Army back in the early '70s - very easy (but rewarding) duty in an Army research facility in the Boston area.

I looked for a way to add grain in PSPX but couldn't find one - I'm sure their must be straightforward way to do so, but neither of the two support books I bought mention how.

The best I could do was use an "antique" photo simulation that happened to add grain, along with - unforturnately - a schlocky border.

I know you were writing to someone else, but I had to respond. I love this shot with the frame!!! BTW I was in the USN for 20 years (LIFER!).

Thanks much. Perhaps the frame is growing on me; at first I thought is was pretty hokey - but the more I see it the less I feel that way.
