My first fireworks photos
Posted By: dbh, 07-02-2007, 04:04 PM

... can be seen here: Millwoods Fireworks

I used a tripod and bulb mode with a wired remote shutter release.
Exposures ranged from less than a second to over 13s, just depending on my feeling about the scene in front of me.
The zoom and camera position didn't budge from start to finish so slide shows kind of mimic the show itself.
I was facing due west and the show went from about 11:00pm to about 11:20pm. You can see Venus near the
horizon, and the brightness of the distant northwest sky gives hints on the exposure.
The images on the web site above are the best few from last night.

Enjoy.

DBH,

Nice series with some nice scale by showing people in the last images. Looks like you had some wind too.

I was wondering what was blocking out some of your early images on top, until your last frames when I saw it was a tree.

Nice shots indeed ... bit of a shame about the overhanging tree though.
I do like the series of shots though.

Thanks for the comments. I set up in front of a tree to avoid blocking people's
view. Then the crowd formed around me and I could not move. Still, I'm thinking
the lower branches will remind me of where on the hill I was.

Next year will be better.

Those are impressive shots. I've found fireworks to be tough to get a decent shot of, way to go!

Shows how much you really need a stable tripod and/or a remote release...

I had fun doing it that way (remote+tripod) with a very wide angle lens. It left me to worry about only two things: operating the button and enjoying the show.

I especially like your "fireworks014".
