There is no scenery like SWEngineer has in his excellent Orion shot. Here is my attempt at Orion tonight;

A 50mm f/1.7 which framed Orion just like you see it apart from a tiny crop.

a nifty 50 strikes again! try setting your sights on the pleiades, which is in the western sky (for me at least) ... to the naked eye it looks like a blue fuzzy patch

The Pleiades should look like 6 (usually that's what visible to the eye) pretty well defined blue-ish stars, unless you have REALLY bad light pollution.
