Posted By: roscot, 11-25-2006, 03:13 PM

I am considering entering this photo in a contest sponsered by the AKC. THe theme is "Their Favorite Things". What do you all think?
Thanks

I wanted to say too that you could use a selective dodge and burn' overlay layer on the dog and darken the right side eye inside so it doesn't look as foggy while bringing out some more of the left side face.

Here's a new crop

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Here is a new crop of the image, I also cloned out the remaining visible parts of the headboard. I tried adding a catch light but it looked fake. I'm ok with the basics of PS, still learning for the more advanced stuff.

Hi Roy,
The flash was off camera to the right. I really need a 2 flash set up for this. I just don't use flash enough to justify another EF500DG.

Thanks for the comments

i think you should leave the cloudiness in the eye. it adds character and i think this one is a lot better.

In lieu of a second flash setup, a good sized reflector opposite the flash of most anything white or silver could compensate nicely.

Great work Alan,

I have to say the same as Sean, (You need a studio) I know you said when you retire. So retire and do what you want to do and You know photos of dog shows and the dogs fetch some really good bucks. think about what you really love to do and the contacts you have in this business. Your a good photographerand you know your way around the business. do your self a favor and go for it. (the proof is in the pictures you take)

Just some words of encouragement my friend.

Good Shooting.
Cheers: David

Ok one more version, I did some work on the eyes, and some of the blown highlights around the nose. Any better?

The printed version actually retains more contrast and shadow detail. Some how online the shadow detail goes away, so for online viewing I lightened the shadows a bit.

Thanks for looking
-Alan
