I don't know, maybe 3 or 4 inches. Honey bees are quite docile when away from the nest. They don't mind being photographed. As long as you don't mess with them they don't mess with you.

I would too, but in order to stop the lens down and expand the DOF, you pretty much have to use flash in Macro. I've had some success but find that I get a lot less accpetable shots.

Thank you Paul, they were all taken in manual mode, ISO 100, f11(I think, with manual lens it's hard to remember but I usually use f11 with flash, but it could have been f8 since I was using the 2x teleconverter) and 1/160th with the internal flash. PP was with SilkyPix.

Thanks, the build in flash is ok up close. but an off board flash would be better.

Off topic - I have a super takumar f/1.4 50mm. Do you think with a 2x macro tele I can achieve the same magnification as yours?

What brand is your 2x Macro tele ?

Wonderful macros here, very crisp, great colors. Only thing needed now is to get the flash off camera and make for some extra cool lighting!
