House on a Beach Dune - Waiting for Summer
Posted By: Sailor, 02-23-2010, 07:11 PM

Last week I posted a series of shots from the local Quintana Beach area that included photo #1 below. Quite frankly, I like it (as did kind-hearted Heinrich) but I've wondered whether the cabin is too diminished by the long leading line described by the pathway. Consequently, I cropped the picture differently (# 2) in a way that brings the cabin more to the fore. What do you think? Or should I simply throw away the camera and start knitting?

The 1st for me as well. To me, it matches with the perspective.
Thanks much.

Gotta concur that the 1st is the better of the 2... The longer lines give a better sense of isolation.

Hey Mike - I think you're right (as was Heinrich all along).

Like Jim, I prefer the first one!
But in case you decide to start knitting, I could use some gloves for next winter Jer!
Thanks, my friend. What color were you thinking of?

Getting deeper than just photographic composition and wonderful exposure, Mike hints at why I prefer #1. The long leading line evokes more feeling of longing for eventual entry to the warmth and conviviality of the cabin; the afmiliar path but long walk to get there - #1 is telling me a story.

Maybe I'm just feeling this endless winter as February comes to a close, but I REALLY want to feel sun-warmth on my face. #1 strikes me emotionally more than #2 does - and that's why many of us do this, isn't it?
Well said; I think you and Mike have identified the difference, and I've learned a lot from this exercise. Many thanks for the kind words.

Great! Didn't even try to post the former post in French, but I am glad the machine translated it into understandable English!
