I believe this is your strongest shot composition-wise:

All the other photos are wonderful starters and hopefully you build up from what you already have. If thats your sister then see if she'll sit down and let you take pics and learn shooting people and poses (check my flickr for portrait ideas) and it's much cheaper if it's family vs. paying someone to do it. Other than that keep on shooting and enjoy it since you'll need to be your own worst critic in the end.

Thats actually my student from years ago. I used to teach martial art and self defense at community centres. I actually have 2 people that will model for me (professional models) for free, so I should be able to pull something if i can come up with the proper props.

That pic is good, except that the hair was kinda messy

These are my true first attempt with portrait, i do more structure, landscape and cars.. i will definitely practice more. And thanks for the pointers, it definitely help. Lets hope that portrait lens i ordered can compensate a bit for the lack of skills in me

Ahh well that is also great news about the two models. The only advice that I have then is practice practice and more practice.

Try focusing in manual because it will force you to spend more time looking at your subject and working on composition.

What new portrait lens did you pick up? Hopefully a Pentax FA50 1.4? It's prolly the best lens for the buck IMO.

Thanks for the pointer and suggestion guys. I will definitely try focusing manually. The problem there is that my vision is not the greatest, especially peeking through the viewfinder.. i sometimes (just sometimes, thank god) can't even read the settings i am using (the little illuminated indication in the viewfinder)

I will definitely let her know that there were such comments made of her, stay tune for more when I do get my props for the other 2

If you're vision isn't too bad (mine is), you can make things clearer by adjusting the diopter (the little "dial" on top of the viewfinder).

Godwine, my vision is pretty bad too. I made a nice discovery. I bought the
Pentax viewfinder magnifier that has improved my focusing substantially. You might want to try that . It's called the O- ME53 magnifying eyecup and wasn't very expensive. Give it a shot, I never take it off my K100D. Freddy

The company had a cruise yesterday, so I did more pics.. please check out my site again..

very little post-processiing were done (some minor adjustment, saturation and dust work).
