Reality Bites

Today is day 2 back from a wonderful 15 day vacation in Mexico. This is why some of us work so we can afford to get away once in a while - sure wish it was the other way around

The first week we rented a house on the beach. Second week both couples (us and our friends) shipped the kids home , moved to the Grand Mayan and somewhat like Vegas what happens in Mexico - didn't .

While the weather was not stellar , we did have a few days the first week of all sunshine and everyday but one had at least 3 hours of sun. One day it came down in buckets ....

I don't know that I will ever go back to a Hotel / Resort. The freedom of a house with all the ammenties is soooooooooo much nicer. This house slept 8 with 4 bedrooms,Wireless Internet very stable, Vonage phone free phone calls, etc .

Here is the view from the ocean .

The view from the balcony with day 1 my daughter is very very happy (just after midterms a real stress reliever )

The crew. These are our good friends and we have travelled together with the kids (well youngest is 16 oldest is 20 ) in tow and on our own as well , it's hard to find people you can travel and live with we are fortunate.

Ahhhhhhhh the beach - as nice as it is here (realtively speaking haha) , I will miss this the most ......

Nice images Dave and it sure looks like the saying goes that a good time was had by all.

I agree with you on the Hotel-Resort issue, for the last 5 years we have done most of our road trips by car and stayed in hotels, motels, cottages and whatever. Last month we bought a small travel trailer and are now back in the RV ranks. We like our own bed and food and not to forget the potty on demand.

Take care,

Thanks Heinrich - yeah this is the first 'vacation' we tried the house thing. It was a bit of an unkown and as all we relied on was trip advisor , emails and pictures (that could have been from 1982 haha) - but it worked out great. We saw a couple of Canadian and US RV's while there, but in general RV's are not that big. Now my Dad RV'ed in Arizona for about 15 years with last year being the first he did not go, so I hear ya. Oh one Canadian / US custom I came to miss was throwing toilet paper in the toilet not many do that down there, least the places we went.

Well yeah I suppose we lived large for 8 days anyway (the other 7 days were in a resort type hotel / Timeshare - Grand Mayan) it was a cool place - mark my words Puerto Moreles (where we were between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen) is a great quiet town. In fact of one the local resturants (well really a trailer with some plastic table and chairs on the sidewalk but the food was soooooooo good) has a sign sayig it is a Drinking town with a fishing problem. In 10 years it will be another Playa Del Carmen (tourist trap). So get there while ya can ..... and you are so much closer than me !

Thanks Ivan yeah it is a sweet place - the weather was not as good as it has been in previous years but overall no complaints. We always try and get somewhere new so that makes it fun as well. This year we made it to Belize (San Pedro a whole other country !)

Ha Ha might be room for ya - we keep threating the kids this is their last year and yet they still seem to come along .... so there may be room next year !
