Great White Egret
Lens: 135mm Camera: K20D Photo Location: Grand Mayan , Mexico ISO: 100
Posted By: daacon, 03-07-2010, 08:45 AM

I am pretty sure this is a white heron - this fellow let me get pretty close. I just missed him snatching a bug from the grass. Never did get a good shot of the whole body though ... amateur haha

Edit : Title Changed Thanks Lowell

they are great shots, but to me it looks more like a great egret.

the tell tale sign is the leg color, indistinct grey makes it a white heron,. black makes it an egret.

the other tell tale is the bill, which seems too slender for a heron, and lack of a defined dark "mask" on the bill where it meets the face.

also there is no apparent plume which the hreon should have

Yeah that's me or perrhaps it was the special dirnks that day - can't remember if it was Picaso's or Hurricane's or Sea Breeze , or ..... I think it was like the Palm tree I was leaning against holdng me up.

Thanks Scott - will have to give the K20D / DA* 50-135 combo most of the credit here (see my resposne to Jer's comment). But I have way more there were not so well exposed ....still managed a few.
