The Southeastern Coastal Plain is part of the United States Shorebird Conservation Plan. This designation is based on estimated numbers of American Oystercatchers totaling less than 10,000 and the decline of suitable beach nesting habitat...so I was thrilled to get a chance to photograph them

They live along the oyster banks and I was told they open the oysters with their beak and feed their young.

I am with Jer never heard of them - then again I alos with Jer in my classification skills (crow , seagull, yellow one, big one ....) - Impressive series would be cool to see one actually open an oyster.
