Big Blue - Heron
Posted By: Eastern Shore Charlie, 03-10-2010, 04:44 PM

Saw this Blue Heron at Bombay Hook wildlife refuge outside of Dover, DE Saturday. Funny when I saw him he saw me and true to form he took off. This time I had a nice piece of glass to catch him....I just bought a Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM II and wanted to try it out. I was very happy with the results...the focus surprised me....it stayed with the subject..not the usual one shot while panning and it starts to search.....wow 6 shots and 6 focused shots....what a novel idea....here are the 3 I liked best.....

I like the 3rd photo with a wing span that long flying between those trees.

Nice Heron shots Charlie You must have gotten pretty close too! The Herons I've seen recently have been pretty skittish (except one, he must be my old buddy)

Actually I find #1 the most interesting and unusual heron shot that I've ever seen.

Not as close as I wanted but close enough to good some decent shots....I see some folks here get unbelievable close....none of those birds want to be my buddy...

Your the second person that has said that to me about this shot thanks....I agree usually it is a rear end shot since they are so skittish and they are flying away from you...he had to go forward towards me to get out of there...the full size shot really does this shot justice...
