Just a couple dragonfly macros
Posted By: mikerigel, 07-11-2007, 01:03 PM

I've been so busy lately with work and I miss using my camera... heres a few macros I took yesterday afternoon in the yard.
As always, taken with K10D and Vivitar 105mm.

1/60s f/16.0 at 100.0mm iso200

1/60s f/13.0 at 100.0mm iso200

1/45s f/16.0 at 100.0mm iso200

C&C always welcome.

Mike,

Nicely done. The flash looks low on the subject... did you use the in camera flash. Looks good all the way around, I rank them from favorite order... #3, #1, #2.

Great angle of view on 3.

Thank you Stephen. I have an external flash with a pocket bouncer.
I think the flash looks low simply because my whole setup was lower, this dragonfly was on a tree branch, not on the ground where I usually find them!
I kinda like that though, I was able to try new angles, like the third one!

3 = WOW ... that's all I can say.

The more I see of these ... the more I wouldn't mind getting a dedicated Macro lens. And the more I find my bank account is empty (always the way).

Keep up the excellent work.

Thank you guys. Shooting macro is so fun, finding interesting subject is a challenge where I live though....

Gee do ya think ya could get a bit closer and fill the frame more? ;-)
That last shot is amazing. I feel lucky if I can get one of these guys in the frame let alone that close. Nice work.
