Exposed Brick
Lens: 19mm Camera: K7 Photo Location: Home basement ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F9.5

This was taken in our basement. There used to be an inground indoor pool by the previous owners!! So there is a lot of exposed brick. I have been trying to use this area of the basement creatively and I really like this shot. I used a Metz 58 behind the model (Haley--a great young model) in the inset in the brick (remotely triggered with a Cybercync) and an umbrella with a Metz 58 or a Vivitar 383, also remotely triggered. I also may have used a grid spot on another Metz 58, but forget!!

I converted to B&W with PhotoTools 2.5 and used a grain present, as well.

Is a 'grain present' a filter to add grain? Interested in why you think that added to the shot, cheers.

Hi

Hi:

Thanx for the comments. I actually meant "preset" not "present." Sorry about that.

I have been playing around with OnOne PhotoTools quite a bit. I know post processing can get excessive and I tend to post process a lot. I liked this image becuase I just thought the grain looked nice with the brick, kind of giving a gritty, perhaps not urban, but biting look.

I know I sometimes go overboard with post processing, but I am just trying things out. The model and her mother loved it (so did my wife!!!).

Thanx again for the comments!!

Yes I agree it probably works as an effect with this one because of the low-light kind of feel to it. My only reservation is that the grain looks a little artifacted, but that might be due to sharpening or the jpeg compression?

Not really a fan of the added grain...I think it would look better shot normal with as little grain as possible. I also don't think the black gloves really worked in this shot...they blend in too well with the top she is wearing...there's really no separation.

Thanks so much for the comments. I like the gloves and I do not remember if I had asked her to keep the gloves on or if they already were on and we just shot a few more, but I understand your concern.
