This is a canola field, an oil seed used in the production of one flavour of biodiesel.
There was something about the way the little yellow flowers buttered the landscape clear to the horizon that made me stop on my way to work and snap off a quick one. You probably had to be there...

taking off from Edmonton airport treats one to an awesome sight: checkerboard fields of bright yellow, green and purple. Canola, wheat, alfalfa. In the late afternoon sun it is an awesome sight.

For the non North Americans, the farm fields here are huge, usually referred to as sections: 1mile square = 1 section = 640 acres = 258 hectares.
